The US Consulate encourages all American citizens in Nigeria to register with the embassy/consulate for the following reasons:

  • S. citizens should enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Alerts and ensure you can be located in an emergency.
  • You can register by visiting the State Department’s website at travel.state.gov In addition, if you would like to sign up for our email warden messages, please send your name and email address to us at LagosACS@state.gov
  • When registering, the consulate will make a photocopy of your passport and keep it on file. If your passport is lost or stolen, it will be much easier to replace

The American Citizens Service Section is open on Thursdays from 7.00am – 4.00pm and Fridays from 7.00am – 1.00pm. (For more information, see above). More customers tend to come later in the morning, so to avoid having to wait, it is best to come before 9.00am.

Services include passport renewals, addition of passport pages, voter and tax information and notarizations.

Please note that all passports are printed in the US and sent to the Consulate in Lagos for pickup by the applicant. This process usually takes about three to four weeks.

All ACS services provided at the Consulate General in Lagos require an appointment. Please visit our website:
